Its innovative lifestyle products are easy to use and provide enhanced wellness and health in the home. The new product generations are notable for their use of intelligent technology, while some are linked to the internet or offer smart grid solutions as well as having very simple controls.

Other features which are now taken for granted are outstanding design and their extremely efficient use of energy and water. The constantly reduced consumption of today’s home appliances has not been accompanied by any compromises in performance or ease of operation.

The world’s most important trade show for home appliances, IFA in Berlin, is presenting the entire range of innovations from every branch of the industry. This is the 2nd highlights.

6. XXL-sized refrigerated cabinet by Haier

The outstanding features of the 3D French Door fridge-freezer combination HB21-FG are its wide choice of designs, extremely large refrigerated area and well thought out functionality. In addition to the classic stainless steel version three models, are also available in red, black and white, with easily cleaned, high gloss surfaces, that reflect current developments in the furniture market. The doors have a soft-close mechanism that automatically prevents slamming.

If the doors are left open by mistake an automatic alarm sounds. The upper compartment of the HB-21 series has a net volume of almost 400 litres refrigerated capacity. In the freezer section the extra-wide 3D shelves are mounted on high quality telescopic rails and can be pulled out separately without any effort, thus providing a perfect overview of the entire freezer compartment.

7. The oven that can mix, knead and bake by De’Longhi

The Pangourmet EOB 2071 from De’Longhi is a multi-purpose oven with a fan and a bread-baking function that is easy to operate and produces bread, cakes, pizza and much more besides, all of a professional quality. Just fill the mixing bowl with the necessary ingredients and the Pangourmet will knead the dough, let it rise and bake it to perfection.

The choice of 30 pre-set programmes and 6 different cooking functions, including top and bottom heat, is also ideal for producing roasts, fondues and other main dishes as well as desserts for the whole family. Compared with builtin ovens it also saves time and reduces electricity consumption because, with a volume of 20 litres, it heats up faster and with greater energy efficiency.

8. Designer items for the kitchen by Grundig

With their attractive, uncluttered styling the Grundig “White Sense” models incorporate reliable technology with carefully thought-out design. This breakfast set combines a shiny, milky-white surface with subtly shimmering metallic accents in a choice of either lavender or silver.

With its clean lines it is the perfect addition to any modern kitchen. The breakfast set consists of a high performance coffee machine, a kettle and a toaster. The understated styling is also reflected in the intuitive controls of the “White Sense” models.

9. Washing machines with anti-bacterial door gasket by Haier

Haier is presenting its new HWxx-B1486 series of washing machines with a robust IC motor and a unique innovation: a door gasket and detergent tray that use Haier’s own anti-bacterial process to resist the formation of bacteria throughout the lifetime of the machine.

Unlike anti-bacterial treatments that have to be applied to specific points on the machine at regular intervals, ABT is permanently effective and inhibits the formation of bacteria on the door seal and in the detergent tray from the very start, requiring no further maintenance.

10. Cleaning robot wipes the dirt from smooth floors by iRobot

Wiping instead of suction: that is the method used by the Scooba 385 from iRobot. The latest version, which is being exhibited by Klein Robotics at IFA 2011, is now even easier to operate. The Scooba 385 can clean up to 80 square metres in three to four medium sized rooms on one battery charge. The floor-wiping robot is ideal for cleaning tiles, linoleum, PVC and sealed parquet. This agile robotic cleaner is also extremely hygienic.

The fresh water tank is totally separate from the dirty water tank, ensuring that only clean water is allowed onto the surfaces. With a full tank the Scooba can clean up to 40 square metres so thoroughly that up to 98 per cent of bacteria are removed. The independently carried out cleaning patterns wipe each floor area some five times.
