The Bi-Fuel generator from Generac® Power Systems, Waukesha, Wis., combines diesel fuel with natural gas in a compression ignition engine to provide redundancy and extended run time capabilities, according to Laura Derpinghaus, director of marketing, Generac.

“Generac’s proven Bi-Fuel technology is now available in a larger kilowatt (kW) configuration, providing 600 to 9,000 kW of power,” says Derpinghaus. “The bi-fuel generator (pictured left) starts on diesel fuel and adds natural gas as load is applied. Typically, the generator operates on 30 percent diesel gas and 70 percent natural gas. Because of the reduced consumption of diesel fuel by the engine, run times per tank of fuel are significantly extended.”According to Derpinghaus, a 20-inch tank of diesel fuel (469 gallons) provides 10 hours of run time, whereas a bi-fuel engine running off the same 20-inch tank extends the run time to 33 hours by supplementing with natural gas.

In addition, the Bi-Fuel generator engine provides built-in redundancy. According to Derpinghaus, if the natural gas supply is interrupted for any reason, such as a gas line block, the engine controls will 8automatically direct the unit back to 100 percent diesel without power interruption.

The Bi-Fuel generator also meets emissions requirements established by the South Coast Air Quality Management District. The introduction of natural gas in bi-fuel operation significantly reduces exhaust missions, such as particulate matter and nitrogen oxides (NOx), and also provides reduced maintenance costs due to the clean burning characteristics of natural gas. In addition, because natural gas is the predominant fuel, reduced diesel fuel storage on site is an added benefit. With the increasing price of fuel, the Bi-Fuel engine also can save end-users money as it requires significantly less diesel.The Bi-Fuel generator is controlled by Generac’s PowerManager® System Controller, which integrates control of bi-fuel operation with all other generator control functions. Benefits include fast system response, minimized interconnect wiring, easy system monitoring and advanced diagnostic capabilities.

In addition, the Bi-Fuel generator is part of Generac’s Modular Power System (MPS), a flexible and expandable power solution in which each genset backs up the others in the system, so critical loads receive redundant protection. The MPS provides all the benefits of parallel generation in a simple, single-source system that allows end-users to quickly and easily add units as additional power is needed.

Scanbuy(www.scanbuy.com), the global leader in mobile barcode solutions, today announced that it has partnered with RCR Wireless News (www.rcrwireless.com), the premier news source for the wireless communications industry, to provide ScanLife mobile barcodes for their line of publications and events, including their website, daily eNewsletters and printed special editions. The mobile barcode platform will provide readers fast and easy mobile access to RCR Wireless from anywhere, anytime.

ScanLife QR codes give RCR a tool that will make some of their traditional media more engaging and mobile friendly. The technology will be launched this week at CTIA Orlando, Florida to give visitors all the information from RCR’s diverse line of publications without having to search a web browser or pick up a printed edition. Codes will also link to Twitter feeds, daily newsletters, and new content. ScanLife’s barcodes can be updated at any time, giving users the most dynamic news and information by scanning the same barcode at different times.

“The partnership between Scanbuy and RCR Wireless News opens up a new wave of the future,” said Mike Wehrs, CEO and President of Scanbuy. “With the 1600% increase in scans last year, more and more people use scanning for everything from getting reviews to obtaining coupons. We are thrilled to be partnering with one of the leaders in the wireless industry, and this is a fantastic way to show how this technology can be used to deliver instant access to content.
<FLORIDA, USA (AVING Special Report on 'CTIA Wireless 2011') -- <Visual News>

Symmetricom, a worldwide leader in precision time and frequency technologies, announced today the TimeProvider® 1500 (TP1500), the industry’s first packet-based primary reference source (PRS). The TP1500 is an innovative packet-based synchronization system that delivers a PRS-quality clock without requiring a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) antenna installation.

“Most mobile operators and many backhaul transport providers are moving to Carrier Ethernet packet backhaul in order to accommodate the requirements of HSPA, HSPA+, LTE, and 4G. As they move to packet, the existing time division multiplexing (TDM) synchronization traceability is broken,” stated Michael Howard, principal analyst at Infonetics Research. “The TimeProvider 1500 restores the synchronization chain by delivering precise timing across packet networks.”

As synchronization requirements in next generation networks (NGN) become more stringent, operators need ubiquitous and continuous access to PRS-quality reference sources. The TP1500 Packet PRS provides an attractive complement to traditional cesium or GNSS-based PRS solutions. The TP1500 combines the rubidium QUANTUM® miniature atomic clock (MAC) and Symmetricom’s innovative PackeTime™ technology to deliver primary reference level synchronization in areas where GNSS coverage or antenna deployment is challenged, and supports migration from TDM to Ethernet-based networks. The TP1500 adheres to the IEEE 1588-2008 protocol specification, and leverages the capabilities of the industry-leading TimeProvider 5000 Grandmaster to provide cost effective packet-based PRS services for the radio access network (RAN).

“The TP1500 is the industry’s first packet-based primary reference source solution to enhance traditional synchronization sources,” said Manish Gupta, vice president of marketing at Symmetricom. “The TP1500 is another example of Symmetricom’s innovative approach to solving customers’ challenges, providing a unique packet-based solution that is immune to the interference and antenna deployment challenges of traditional GNSS sources.”

The TP1500 product is part of Symmetricom’s TimeProvider suite of products that are based on the IEEE 1588-2008 standard designed to deliver the most stringent frequency and timing requirements for Ethernet-based next generation networks.

<FLORIDA, USA (AVING Special Report on 'CTIA Wireless 2011') -- <Visual News>

Agilent Technologies today enhanced its N5971A CDMA Interactive Functional Test (IFT) software, introducing the N5973A IFT automation for LTE to CDMA Inter-RAT compliance test plan. This solution enables developers and operators to quickly and repeatedly generate measurement reports in accordance with leading operators’ LTE-CDMA handover test plan.

(Photo : PXT Wireless Communications Test Set)

Testing handover between different radio access technologies (RAT) is becoming ever more important in the verification of LTE user equipment. When out of the LTE service area the equipment will typically fall back to the network’s 2G or 3G infrastructure. For a positive end-user experience, equipment needs to transition smoothly between these technologies, which leads operators to increase their focus on testing the real-world performance of each device before deployment on their networks. Such performance testing goes well beyond the more traditional conformance tests defined by the industry’s standards bodies.

“Inter-RAT handovers are particularly demanding for today’s user equipment,” said Guy Sene, vice president and general manager of Agilent’s Microwave and Communications Division. “With Agilent’s inter-RAT test automation, our customers can make reliable measurements without having to create complex code or program test equipment.”

As an established solution for stress-testing equipment, Agilent’s IFT supports a host of capabilities, including equipment control voice-calling, web browsing, SMS and MMS. It also supports Verizon’s battery-drain compliance test plan. The new N5973A automation scripts implement the LTE-CDMA inter-RAT compliance test plan, running on the IFT platform. The software is used in conjunction with the PXT Wireless Communications Test Set and 8960 Wireless Communications Test Set, bringing realistic network test scenarios into the lab environment.

FLORIDA, USA (AVING Special Report on ‘CTIA Wireless 2011′) — <Visual News>

As the telecommunications industry comes together at CTIA Wireless 2011 in Orlando, FL, Symmetricom, a worldwide leader in precision time and frequency technologies, and Nokia Siemens Networks, a leading global enabler of telecommunications services, today announced that they have now successfully deployed IEEE 1588-2008 in more than 50 networks globally. To date, Nokia Siemens Networks, as a leader in IP based mobile backhauling, has connected more than 40,000 base stations served by Symmetricom’s TimeProvider® 5000 IEEE 1588 Grandmaster Clock.

Legacy mobile networks have relied on time division multiplexing (TDM) to provide synchronization to base stations. With access networks migrating to Ethernet, the traditional synchronization distribution chain is broken. Lack of synchronization results in dropped calls, service degradation and eventual loss of revenue. Packet networks require a technology such as 1588 to provide TDM-equivalent synchronization services to IP-enabled base stations, which ensures service continuity and preserves the benefits and flexibility of Ethernet.

“Symmetricom is the market leader for Timing over Packet with the industry’s only carrier class 1588 Grandmaster, TimeProvider® 5000. This partnership has helped us increase our leadership position in IP / Ethernet to deliver a complete end-to-end Mobile backhaul solution,” said Martin Brundert, head of solutions management for network systems at Nokia Siemens Networks. “We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Symmetricom to deliver innovative solutions to our global customers.”

Nokia Siemens Networks and Symmetricom are leading the industry with a joint carrier class redundant Precise Time Protocol (PTP) solution using Symmetricom’s TimeProvider® 5000 1588 Grandmaster that incorporates hardware-based time stamping to provide precise timing and frequency over a broad range of wireless applications. Nokia Siemens Networks has leveraged and integrated Symmetricom 1588 products to provide end-to-end mobile backhaul solutions. Symmetricom’s TimeProvider has been integrated into Nokia Siemens Networks NetAct network management system to ensure end-to-end management for the entire mobile backhauling network.

“We are delighted to have surpassed this milestone with our partner Nokia Siemens Networks, a leader in IP/Ethernet based Mobile Backhaul,” said Manish Gupta, vice president of marketing at Symmetricom. “Our close collaboration has led to successful deployments of 1588 packet timing solutions in carrier networks on five continents and has made Nokia Siemens Networks by far the largest integrator for Symmetricom’s Time Provider portfolio.”
