[IFA 2012] IFA of global relevance to the industry and trade

8:18 pm am July 4, 2012

An unprecedented level of dynamic innovation combined with customers who are fascinated by new products have created a mood of optimism among manufacturers and the trade. IFA, now a uniquely successful globally event, has become indispensable as a venue for presenting globally important new products. It is for this reason that IFA’s organiser’s gfu and Messe Berlin are able to announce that, once again, IFA 2012 is already overbooked. Their expectations are that demand will grow still further.

Dr. Rainer Hecker, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of gfu – Gesellschaft für Unterhaltungs- und Kommunikationselektronik: “Market growth, innovative technology and product trends have created a favourable environment for IFA 2012. This year one of the most important objective for the industry and the trade in 2012 is to achieve a shift from the destruction of values to value orientation. IFA as the leading market place and meeting point can contribute to such a common understanding on the way to a general shift from the destruction of values to value orientation.

As the industries’ most important hub and marketplace IFA can make a significant contribution towards realising a common aim, of rating added value over price.”

Commenting on current market developments, Jürgen Boyny, Global Director, Consumer Electronics GfK Retail and Technology, said: “Since 2010 the markets for consumer electronics and home appliances have been growing worldwide. Projections for 2012 forecast global growth in the order of 3 to 5 per cent. This growth is taking place in emerging markets and is the result of innovation, in other words the products that are on show at IFA. Driving this growth are tablet PCs, smartphones and – less dynamically than in previous years – LCD TVs, along with LED TVs, 3-D and internet connectivity.”

IFA continues to grow

Dr. Christian Göke, COO Messe Berlin: “The fact that the world of consumer electronics and home appliances attracts 140,000 trade visitors and more than 6,000 journalists to Berlin is without parallel anywhere in the world. The story continues in terms of growth and dynamic innovation. IFA is an ongoing success.”

IFA Tech Watch

For technical enthusiasts visiting IFA, for journalists, experts and decision-makers from the industry and trade Hall 11.1 is a must-see stop on their tour of the fair: this is where IFA TecWatch displays the technologies for the markets of tomorrow. The exhibits cover a wide range of themes and include new display technologies and components, the 3-D and Super HD solutions of tomorrow, a combination of virtual and real worlds (augmented reality) and the „cloud”, a place where numerous new applications ranging from entertainment to services meet. Among the highlights is the ‘E-Haus’, a model of a fully networked home environment which, presented by the ZVEH, ZVEI and VDE, demonstrates life in the smart home. Visitors can find out what forward-looking technology is already capable of: energy saving, house surveillance, remote monitoring of important functions and easy control of various media. In addition to the exhibits on show the IFA TecWatch Forum at the centre of the display hall features an outstanding and unique programme of presentations, papers and panel discussions.

Industry trends

As the world’s leading trade fair for consumer electronics and home appliances IFA exhibits the entire product range of a dynamic and innovative industry. Ever-larger TV screens with pin-sharp images in brilliant colour, 3D viewing, with and without glasses for TV sets and computer monitors as well, thin, lightweight, high-performance, fast ultrabooks, more and more CE, IT and telecom devices with network capabilities, for the home and on the move – these are the leading trends in the consumer electronics industry.

From 31 August to 5 September the leading brands of the home appliances industry will be represented on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds. Not only do today’s home appliances make life in the home easier and better, they also reflect such lifestyle trends as healthy cooking, wellness, the efficient use of energy and conservation of resources as well as an easy-going lifestyle and maintaining a healthy diet. Simple controls, intelligent technology and, of course, excellent design, are the outstanding characteristics of the latest electrical home appliances and small appliances from leading manufactures.

IFA is the world’s most significant trade show for consumer electronics and home appliance and takes place from 31 August to 5 September 2012 in Berlin.
